President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, including the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
The appointments comprise 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors whose nominations were confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
A statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the postings are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and advance the country’s foreign policy objectives.
Among the non-career ambassadors, former senator Jimoh Ibrahim was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while Femi Fani-Kayode was posted to Germany.
Former Minister of Health, Isaac Folorunso Adewole, will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador to Canada, and former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, was assigned to China.
Others include Reno Omokri to Mexico, Ita Enang to South Africa, Grace Bent to Togo, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.
The career ambassadors were also deployed to several missions across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, including Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Belgium, Switzerland, Iran and India.
According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Nigeria) has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu. France has also conveyed its agrément for Ambassador Ayo Oke.
The ministry has formally notified the other host countries of the appointments and requested agrément for the remaining envoys in line with diplomatic procedures.
President Tinubu further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners before their deployment to their respective missions.
