The Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Eze Francis Igwe, father of former Ebonyi State Deputy Governor Kelechi Igwe, who reportedly died in the hands of suspected kidnappers.
In a condolence message on Friday, Umahi described the incident as shocking and heartbreaking, noting that the late traditional ruler was a respected elder whose life was dedicated to the peace, unity, and development of his community.
Reports indicate that the monarch was abducted by gunmen a few days before his death, an incident that has generated widespread grief and concern across Ebonyi State.
Reacting to the development, the minister said the tragic circumstances surrounding the monarch’s death have left many in disbelief. He noted that losing a father is always painful, but the manner of the monarch’s death makes the loss even more devastating for the family.
Umahi extended his heartfelt condolences to the former deputy governor, the entire Igwe family, and the community of the late traditional ruler, urging them to remain strong during the difficult period.
He described the late monarch as a man of wisdom and humility whose contributions to the traditional institution and community leadership would not be forgotten.
The minister also commended security agencies for their swift response following the incident, particularly the arrest of suspects allegedly linked to the crime.
He expressed hope that a thorough investigation would ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
Umahi further prayed for the peaceful repose of the monarch’s soul and asked God to grant his family and loved ones the strength to bear the painful loss.
The death of Eze Francis Igwe has continued to draw reactions from political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents across Ebonyi State, many of whom have described the incident as a tragic reminder of the growing security concerns in parts of the country.
