Chief Barrister Tochukwu Ogalegu, popularly known as T-man and an aspirant for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency seat, has declared his readiness to contest and win the 2027 general elections through a fair and transparent process.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists at his Amike Izhiangbo in Ohaukwu Local government area of Ebonyi State, the Chairman of Zelus Group of Companies and Chief Executive Officer of Zelunjo Empowerment Foundation emphasized that his political ambition is driven by service, not desperation.
According to him, politics should not be approached as a “do-or-die affair,” stressing that he is prepared to accept the outcome of a credible electoral process.
“I am prepared to compete, and I will win fairly. All I want is for my name to be on the ballot. If I lose, I will accept it in good faith. And if I win, others should also accept the will of the people," he said.
Ogalegu recently announced his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to secure a viable platform that would guarantee him the opportunity to contest.
He clarified, however, that his decision to leave the party was not borne out of hostility or dissatisfaction with its leadership.
“In spirit, I remain aligned with the government. I still support the President and the Governor, but politically, I need a platform that can offer me the ticket to pursue my ambition,” he explained.
Highlighting the urgency of political decision-making, Ogalegu pointed to provisions of the Electoral Act, noting that delays in declaring political alignment could have legal consequences, including issues around dual party membership.
Beyond politics, the aspirant underscored his track record in youth empowerment and community development, claiming to have facilitated employment opportunities for over 500 individuals without financial inducement.
He argued that meaningful engagement of young people remains a critical strategy for reducing crime and fostering societal stability.
“Policing the environment goes beyond security agencies. It involves engaging the youths meaningfully. When people are empowered and productive, they are less likely to engage in crime,” he said.
Ogalegu also took a swipe at what he described as unethical practices among some political actors, including the commercialization of job opportunities and exploitation of vulnerable citizens.
He maintained that leaders with a proven record of service should be encouraged to do more.
The aspirant dismissed speculations that his growing popularity has unsettled established political figures in the constituency, attributing such perceptions to “fear of the unknown” and misinformation about his personality and intentions.
“When people get to know me, they will understand that I am committed to collaboration and loyalty. The fear is natural, but it will fade with time,” he added.
Reaffirming his commitment to grassroots mobilization, Ogalegu revealed plans to stage a major political rally in the coming days, expressing confidence that his support base remains strong and unwavering despite his recent party switch.
“My supporters are steadfast. Their loyalty is based on trust and what we have built together over time. The crowd you see is a reflection of genuine connection with the people,” he said.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Ogalegu called for issue-based politics, adherence to the rule of law, and a level playing field for all aspirants.
“I am not afraid. Once you remove fear from politics, victory becomes possible. But above all, I believe in the rule of law and the power of the people to decide,” he concluded.
