The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has assured constituents of increased dividends of democracy following his endorsement for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Nwebonyi gave the assurance in Abakaliki after receiving a unanimous nod from stakeholders, including the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, and members of his constituency, who commended his performance and effective representation at the Senate.
Speaking with journalists, the lawmaker expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to redouble his efforts in delivering people-oriented projects and sustaining quality representation at the National Assembly.
“I thank Governor Nwifuru and my constituents for finding me worthy of a second tenure. This endorsement is a call to do more, and I will not take it for granted,” he said.
He outlined plans to expand infrastructure development across the zone, including the construction of roads, schools, and bridges, alongside youth empowerment initiatives, educational support programmes, and housing projects for indigent citizens.
The senator also reaffirmed his commitment to legislative duties, noting that effective lawmaking and oversight of the executive remain central to his mandate.
“I will continue to prioritise my responsibilities on the floor of the Senate while ensuring that the needs of my people are adequately represented and addressed,” he added.
Nwebonyi further emphasised the need for unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging party members to uphold internal democracy and cohesion as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.
According to him, the strength of the APC lies in its inclusiveness and ability to provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
“Our party gives equal opportunity to everyone to contest, and that is the hallmark of true democracy. If we remain united, victory in 2027 is assured,” he said.
The endorsement is seen as a significant boost to Nwebonyi’s political standing, reinforcing confidence among constituents in his leadership and development agenda for Ebonyi North.
