The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ebonyi State Chapter, has commended the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru for what it described as “far-reaching reforms” in youth development and governance, while calling for a coordinated, nationwide security crackdown on individuals allegedly sponsoring insecurity across the country.
The State Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, made the remarks on Thursday while addressing journalists at the council’s office in Abakaliki.
He said the current administration has demonstrated a commitment to inclusive governance, particularly through youth engagement, human capital development, and expanded access to education and healthcare.
According to him, the government has adopted an open-door policy that has encouraged youth participation in governance and created opportunities for graduates to pursue further studies, both locally and abroad. He added that ongoing interventions in agriculture, urban and rural infrastructure, and the ease of doing business have positioned the state on a progressive trajectory.
“The administration has significantly broadened the scope of youth inclusion in governance. This is not only strengthening institutions but also preparing a new generation of leaders,” Ochishi said.
He urged residents of Ebonyi State to support the governor’s policy direction, noting that continuity would help consolidate ongoing reforms and sustain development gains.
On the security situation in the country, the youth body called for decisive action by federal and state authorities, as well as security agencies, to identify and apprehend individuals described as “political cabals” or kingpins behind violent crimes and unrest.
Ochishi advocated a strategic, intelligence-driven security operation across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, emphasizing the need for inter-agency coordination, surveillance, and community-based intelligence gathering to dismantle criminal networks.
“No individual is above the law. Once credible evidence links any person to the sponsorship of insecurity, such individuals must be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.
He further stressed the importance of strengthening community policing frameworks and public vigilance through citizen reporting mechanisms.
The chairman encouraged the adoption of the “see something, say something” approach as a preventive measure against emerging threats, particularly in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections.
Describing the current wave of violence in parts of the country as unacceptable, the NYCN called for swift justice and enhanced operational capacity for security agencies to restore public confidence and ensure the safety of lives and property.
The council reiterated its commitment to supporting policies and initiatives aimed at promoting peace, security, and sustainable development in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria.
