The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has called on Christians and all residents of the state to embrace love, peace, and unity as they celebrate Easter, urging them to be their brother’s keeper in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Nwifuru in an Easter message issued on Saturday which was made available to journalists by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, encouraged the faithful to use the sacred season to extend kindness and charity to the needy, while fostering harmony within their communities.
He emphasized that Easter, which marks the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, remains a powerful symbol of sacrifice, redemption, and hope for humanity.
Describing the occasion as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, the governor noted that the resurrection of Christ represents the triumph of light over darkness and life over death.
He said the season serves as a moral compass for believers, calling on them to live in peace, humility, and selflessness.
Governor Nwifuru also urged Christians to pursue peace as instructed by Jesus Christ and to offer prayers for Nigeria’s unity, stability, and social cohesion, especially in the face of prevailing national challenges.
Acknowledging the current economic and security realities, he stated that the Easter message is particularly relevant at a time when society is grappling with uncertainties and pressures.
According to him, the season calls for a collective resolve to reject hatred and violence, and instead embrace compassion, forgiveness, and unity.
Highlighting his administration’s efforts, the governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to tackling insecurity and improving the welfare of citizens.
He noted that strategic measures have been implemented to strengthen the security architecture, enhance community vigilante operations, and promote collaboration with relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and property.
He further pointed to ongoing interventions in infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, youth empowerment, and agricultural transformation, all anchored on the government’s People’s Charter of Needs.
While stressing that governance alone cannot achieve the desired transformation, Governor Nwifuru called for active citizen participation in building a peaceful and prosperous society.
He urged Ebonyians to promote peace at the grassroots level across villages, wards, and local government areas.
The governor concluded with prayers for renewed faith, courage, and sacrifice among the people, expressing optimism that with unity of purpose and divine guidance, Ebonyi State and Nigeria would overcome present challenges and achieve lasting peace and shared prosperity.
