Onyinye was reportedly taken away to a private location believed to belong to one of the guards. There, he was tied to a bench and subjected to severe physical assault.

His friend, Anayo, who was present at the time of the accusation, was later released. However, the damage had already been done.
In a shocking twist, the phone at the center of the accusation was later found in the possession of the same bar owner who had accused Onyinye of theft.
