The Ebonyi State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), under the leadership of its Chairman, Comrade Douglas Ochishi, has commended the peaceful, transparent and orderly conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries across the 13 local government areas of the state.
The Council described the exercise as a remarkable demonstration of political maturity, internal democracy and responsible leadership, noting that the calm atmosphere which characterised the primaries was a direct reflection of the peace-building, inclusive governance and people-oriented leadership style entrenched by the administration of Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abakaliki, Comrade Ochishi said the successful conduct of the primaries further reinforced Ebonyi State’s growing reputation as one of the most politically stable states in the country.
The NYCN first congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his overwhelming victory in the presidential primary in Ebonyi State, describing the outcome as a strong indication of the confidence and trust reposed in his administration and reform agenda by APC faithful in the state.
The Council equally congratulated Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru on his emergence as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election, commending his administration for fostering peace, inclusive governance and political stability across the state.
The youth body also congratulated the Minister of Works, David Umahi, alongside all candidates who emerged victorious during the National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries, noting that their emergence reflected the confidence of party members in their leadership capacities and service records.
According to the Council, the adoption of the Option A4 direct primary system by the APC leadership strengthened transparency, credibility and popular participation in the democratic process, while reducing tendencies associated with imposition and delegate manipulation.
The NYCN further praised APC stakeholders in Ebonyi State, party executives, elected officials, youth leaders and grassroots mobilisers for sustaining unity, peaceful coexistence and internal harmony throughout the exercise.
The Council equally commended notable individuals and leaders who have continued to champion inclusive governance, youth participation, peaceful political engagement and developmental politics across Ebonyi State.
Comrade Ochishi stated that the peaceful disposition displayed by political actors and supporters during the exercise should serve as a model for other political parties as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
“We urge other political parties in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria to emulate the maturity, peaceful conduct and democratic spirit exhibited during the APC primaries. Politics should not be approached with bitterness, violence or desperation, but as a platform for service, development and unity,” the statement said.
The Council maintained that sustaining peace before, during and after the 2027 elections remains a collective responsibility of political parties, candidates, supporters, youths, security agencies and other stakeholders.
While reaffirming its commitment to youth development, democratic participation and good governance, the NYCN expressed optimism that the prevailing atmosphere of peace and cooperation in Ebonyi State would further strengthen democratic institutions and accelerate socio-economic development in the state and the country at large.
