Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has described Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, as the best governor in Nigeria, citing his administration’s achievements in infrastructure development, healthcare, education and human capital development.
Nwebonyi made the declaration during a grand endorsement rally organized by Oha Izzi Nnodo at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Abakaliki, where stakeholders, political leaders, youths and women groups from the Izzi clan endorsed Governor Nwifuru for a second term ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The event witnessed a massive turnout, with markets in Abakaliki and other communities across the three Izzi local government areas of Abakaliki, Ebonyi and Izzi reportedly shut down as residents turned out to participate in the solidarity rally.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Nwebonyi commended the governor for what he described as remarkable achievements recorded within a short period in office.
According to him, the Nwifuru administration has transformed critical sectors of the state's economy through the construction and rehabilitation of roads, investment in healthcare infrastructure, educational development and scholarship programmes for students within and outside the country.
He said the ongoing construction of the Vanco flyover and tunnel in Abakaliki, alongside several completed and ongoing road projects across the state, were clear indicators of the governor’s commitment to development.
The senator also hailed the administration’s investments in the health sector, noting that improved healthcare facilities and services had enhanced access to quality medical care for residents.
Nwebonyi further highlighted the foreign and local scholarship schemes introduced by the governor, describing them as strategic investments aimed at empowering Ebonyi youths and preparing them for future leadership roles.
He urged residents of the state to continue supporting the governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that continuity would enable the administration to consolidate on its achievements.
The lawmaker also challenged opposition political parties in the state to support the APC-led government, arguing that such a move would promote unity and accelerate development.
He maintained that the progress recorded under Governor Nwifuru's administration justified the growing support the governor was receiving from different segments of the state.
Earlier, Chairman of the occasion and Principal Secretary to the Governor, Chief Matthias Adum, commended the people of Izzi Nnodo for what he described as a historic demonstration of solidarity and support for Governor Nwifuru.
Adum said the endorsement reflected the confidence of the people in the governor’s leadership and developmental agenda.
He called on the people of the clan to remain united and support APC candidates in future elections to ensure the successful completion of ongoing projects across the state.
According to him, several development projects currently being executed in Abakaliki, Izzi and Ebonyi local government areas would have greater impact if sustained through continuity in governance.
Also speaking, elder statesman and former senator, Senator Chris Nwankwo, urged the people of Izzi Nnodo to remain steadfast in their support for the governor and the APC.
He said a harmonious relationship between the executive and elected representatives would create a conducive environment for governance and development.
Other speakers at the event, including APC National Treasurer, Mr Matthew Uguru; Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Stephen Ebere Nwogba; women leader, Professor Adline Idike; and President of Izzi Nnodo Youth Forum, Dr. Chibueze Elom, among others expressed satisfaction with the endorsement.
They described Governor Nwifuru’s administration as people-oriented and called on residents to maintain peace and participate actively in the democratic process.
The highlight of the rally was the presentation of an endorsement certificate to Governor Nwifuru by stakeholders of Oha Izzi Nnodo.
The certificate was presented by a delegation led by former Vice-Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Professor Francis Idike, and received on behalf of the governor by the Deputy Governor, Princess Patricia Obila.
The stakeholders said the endorsement was a reflection of the confidence reposed in the governor’s leadership and his commitment to the development of Ebonyi State.
