The formt Governor of Anambra State and presidential hopeful of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has called for a better and more inclusive Nigeria where opportunities are available to all citizens.
Obi made the call yesterday at Shanahan University, Onitsha, Anambra State, during a presentation ceremony where he donated ₦25 million to support the institution’s development.
Addressing students of the university, Obi said Nigeria must be rebuilt into a country that works for everyone, regardless of background or connections.
“We want a Nigeria that will work for everybody. We want a Nigeria where a child of nobody can be somebody without knowing anybody because that was how I grew up from here,” he said.
He explained that his journey in life, which began from humble beginnings in Onitsha, shaped his commitment to supporting education and human capital development.
“I didn’t have to know anybody but I went from CKC Onitsha to UNN, Nsukka and travelled to the United Kingdom among other places, just from this small beginning in Onitsha,” Obi said.
The former governor further noted that he remains committed to philanthropy and social investment, stressing that education remains key to national transformation.
“I have nothing in my life now except to help the society to do better. I know that what happened to me will also happen to you because you will be great,” he said.
Obi added that his regular support to institutions and health facilities was driven by his desire to contribute to societal growth.
“Every week, I must visit a hospital. If I move around and make out a kobo, I come around to donate or support for education because it is important,” he stated.
He described education as a critical investment in the future of society, noting that the development of universities would translate into broader national progress.
“By supporting the university, we are investing in the future of the society. By your education, the society will be better,” he added.
