The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, has urged Ebonyi indigenes residing outside the state to return home and register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), saying the exercise is crucial to boosting the state's voting strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Emegha made the appeal on Tuesday while addressing journalists after a stakeholders' meeting of the party in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
He disclosed that Ebonyi was leading the South-East in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), attributing the achievement to coordinated efforts by party stakeholders across the state.
According to him, the party had intensified mobilisation across the 13 local government areas to ensure that every eligible resident registers before the exercise ends.
Emegha said the party also appealed to INEC headquarters for additional registration machines after observing that the initial allocation to the state was inadequate.
He explained that the electoral body responded positively by providing more machines, which have since been distributed to local government areas to ease the registration process and reduce congestion at registration centres.
The APC chairman added that party officials were reaching out to eligible voters who were unable to visit their designated registration centres, stressing that the objective was to ensure no qualified voter was left out of the exercise.
"Our concern is for our people to register. We are not asking them which political party they will vote for. What is important is that Ebonyi should have a strong voting population when national figures are being counted," he said.
Emegha called on Ebonyi indigenes living in other parts of the country to return home and obtain their PVCs instead of relying on social media political campaigns.
He maintained that elections are won through grassroots mobilisation and voter participation, not online campaigns.
"This election will not be won on TikTok or other social media platforms. It will be decided by those who have registered and possess their PVCs. We urge our people to come home and register because that is the first step in participating in the democratic process," he stated.
He expressed confidence that the APC would continue to strengthen its support base through sustained grassroots engagement, insisting that practical political mobilisation would ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 elections.
