The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Chief Sunday Elechi Inyima, has intensified the inspection of ongoing capital projects across the state, reaffirming the commitment of the Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru-led administration to quality service delivery and timely execution of infrastructure projects.
The Commissioner led a monitoring team on Tuesday to inspect several strategic projects being executed by the state government.
The team included the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Engr. Chukwuma Nwiboko, and the Special Assistant, Ajah Philemon.
During the inspection of the ongoing flyover project at Nwezenyi, Inyima expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, describing the progress as consistent with the administration's vision of delivering durable infrastructure to the people of Ebonyi State.
"The level of work here is commendable. This is in line with His Excellency's vision of delivering lasting infrastructure for Ebonyi people," the Commissioner said.
However, the inspection team expressed concern over the pace of work and the quality of execution at the ongoing Iziogo Agbaja tunnel project. Consequently, Elechi directed the contractor handling the project to appear before the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation to explain the delay and address concerns over the standard of work.
The Commissioner stressed that the state government would not tolerate undue delays or substandard execution of projects, warning that contractors who fail to meet contractual obligations would face appropriate sanctions.
The team also inspected the ongoing Onuenyim Bridge project, where Inyima underscored its strategic importance to the state's economic development and regional integration.
"The bridge will provide a direct link with our Benue brothers and sisters. It will strengthen interstate relations between Ebonyi and Benue while promoting trade, commerce and the movement of people and goods," he stated.
Other projects inspected during the tour included the ongoing construction of internal roads at the University of ICT, Science and Technology, Oferekpe; the ultra-modern hospital building at General Hospital, Oferekpe; the 12-kilometre Iziogo road project; and the Ogbaga Randa Bridge.
Inyima reiterated that the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation would sustain regular inspections of government projects to ensure strict compliance with approved specifications, quality standards and completion timelines.
He maintained that the ministry would not hesitate to recommend sanctions against any contractor found wanting, adding that the Nwifuru administration remains committed to delivering durable infrastructure that meets the expectations of the people of Ebonyi State.
