The Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC) in Ebonyi State has appointed Chief Fidelis Ozibo as its new State Secretary following the resignation of the former secretary, Barr. Solomon Chinedu Adum, who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ozibo emerged as the consensus choice during a stakeholders' meeting attended by executives of the party from the 13 wards in Ebonyi Local Government Area.
The meeting was held at Agalegu, Ishieke, in Ebonyi Local Government Area.
Party leaders explained that the decision was in line with the party's directive that the replacement for the State Secretary should come from the same local government area as the former office holder.
Speaking at the meeting, the convener and NDC Senatorial Candidate for Ebonyi North, Hon. James Nwite, expressed appreciation to party members for the impressive turnout and urged them to remain united in strengthening the party ahead of future elections.
Nwite described Ozibo as a seasoned politician with the experience and capacity to reposition the party and expand its grassroots support across the state.
"He has the political experience, integrity and leadership qualities needed to move the party forward. We must continue to work together to build a stronger NDC in Ebonyi State," he said.
Also speaking, the party's House of Representatives candidate for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Hon. Sabastine Odono, thanked members of the party in Ebonyi Local Government Area for their unwavering support for his candidacy.
Odono pledged to provide quality representation and deliver the dividends of democracy if elected, noting that his maternal roots in Ishieke would further strengthen his commitment to the development of the area.
He congratulated Chief Ozibo on his emergence as State Secretary and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to the growth of the party.
The Chairman of the NDC in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Mr. Christian Mbam, and the party's candidate for Ebonyi North West State Constituency, Hon. Uche Ikeagwu, also described Ozibo as the most suitable choice for the position, citing his wealth of political experience and commitment to the ideals of the party.
In his acceptance speech, the new State Secretary thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify their trust through dedicated service.
"I am deeply honoured by this responsibility. Though I am a retired public servant, I am not tired. I will devote my experience and energy towards strengthening the NDC and working tirelessly to ensure the party records electoral victories in Ebonyi State," Ozibo said.
