Beneficiaries of the European Union-sponsored Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) in Ebonyi State have embarked on various Community Development Initiatives (CDIs), giving back to communities through projects aimed at addressing identified social, educational and health needs.
The initiatives, which were implemented across the three senatorial zones of the state, were undertaken by the fellows in three clusters comprising different local government areas.
In Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, Cluster One fellows, comprising participants from Abakaliki and other parts of the zone, on Monday, August 24, 2026, donated tables, plastic chairs, foam mattresses and crutches to the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) office in Abakaliki.
Speaking during the presentation, the fellows said the donation was aimed at supporting persons living with disabilities and addressing some of their immediate needs. They added that the gesture was intended to promote inclusion, give persons with disabilities a greater sense of belonging and encourage them to remain hopeful and productive members of society.
Similarly, Cluster Two fellows, comprising participants from Ohaozara, Afikpo and Edda Local Government Areas, carried out an educational intervention at Presbyterian Primary and Secondary School, Ekeaja Uburu, in Ohaozara LGA.
The fellows, on Friday, July 10, 2026, donated three large double-sided whiteboards and five packs of whiteboard markers to the school to support teaching and learning.
Presenting the materials, the Cluster Leader, Prince Chukwuebuka, and the State Coordinator, Okoloana Chiamaka Mirian, said the initiative was designed to contribute to a more effective teaching and learning environment for pupils and students.
The Headmistress and Principal of the school expressed appreciation to the fellows for the gesture, describing the intervention as timely and valuable to the school community.
In a related development, Cluster Three fellows, comprising participants from Ikwo, Ezza North and Ezza South Local Government Areas, carried out their Community Development Initiative at Okposhi Umuoghara Community in Ezza North LGA.
The fellows organised a health sensitisation programme focused on malaria prevention and control and distributed more than 65 packs of insecticide-treated mosquito nets to residents of the community.
A health worker, Gloria Onyekachi, educated members of the community on practical measures for preventing and controlling malaria, including the importance of sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets and maintaining a clean environment.
The traditional ruler of Okposhi Umuoghara Community, His Royal Highness, Eze Anthony Njoku, commended the fellows for the initiative and expressed appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the European Union for supporting the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme. He noted that the programme was positively impacting communities, organisations and individuals through opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire experience and contribute to national development.
Speaking with journalists, the Ebonyi State NJFP Focal Person, Mr. Amoke Victor Chukwumeka; State Fellows Coordinator, Okoloana Chiamaka Mirian; and cluster leaders, Nneka Success Uguru, Nkama Ogbonnaya Ikwor and Eze Prince Chukwuebuka, expressed appreciation to the European Union and the Federal Government for providing young Nigerians with opportunities to contribute to the nation's workforce. They explained that the Community Development Initiatives represented the fellows' contribution to the development of their host communities and their way of giving back to society through the fellowship programme.
According to them, the initiatives demonstrated that beyond gaining professional experience and earning stipends through the programme, the fellows were also committed to using their opportunities and resources to create positive impacts in their communities.
The projects, they said, were conceived based on identified community needs and were intended to complement existing efforts in the areas of disability inclusion, education and public health.
