The Labour Party candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Dr Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, has made a case for what he described as competent, equitable and responsive representation of the constituency.
Ezeh, who unveiled a five-point development agenda for the constituency, said his aspiration was anchored on the need for representation that would listen to constituents, articulate their interests and work with communities to address their developmental needs.
The agenda, tagged “Arise Agenda,” focuses on agriculture for prosperity; responsive representation and rural access; inclusive health and human development; skills, small and medium-sized enterprises and youth empowerment; as well as education for development.
Ezeh said the constituency needed a representative capable of combining political responsibility with competence, character and private-sector discipline.
“I’m running because our politics needs competence, character and private-sector discipline,” he said.
According to him, Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency deserved representation that would be accessible to the people and responsive to the peculiar needs of communities across the two local government areas.
He also raised the issue of what he described as unequal representation between Abakaliki and Izzi, saying his campaign would seek to promote equity and ensure that communities within the constituency had a stronger voice.
“And after years of unequal representation between the two local governments, it’s time to restore equity and give every community a stronger voice,” he said.
The Labour Party candidate said the proposed agenda would prioritise economic opportunities, improved rural connectivity, human development and greater investment in the productive capacity of young people and small businesses.
His campaign platform also places emphasis on agriculture as an avenue for economic advancement, while proposing stronger attention to healthcare, education and skills development.
Ezeh, who was also the Labour Party's candidate for the constituency in the 2023 election, has in recent months spoken on governance, electoral reform and economic issues ahead of the 2027 elections.
He had earlier called for broader electoral reforms, including measures to strengthen voter participation and improve the transparency of results transmission.
The LP candidate has also said the 2027 political debate should focus on issues including employment, enterprise development, infrastructure, security and accountable governance.
Ezeh's latest campaign message therefore presents the Abakaliki/Izzi contest around five broad areas of development, with emphasis on representation, equity, human capital development and economic empowerment.
He urged constituents to support a political approach centred on listening, consultation and collaboration, stressing that his objective was to give communities a stronger voice in the National Assembly.
