The traditional ruler of Agalegu Ishieke Autonomous Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, HRH Eze Paul Ogodo Egbe, Mgbomeze II, has declared that the traditional stool is held in trust for the people, pledging continued commitment to peace, unity and inclusive leadership.
Egbe stated this in a goodwill message marking the second anniversary of his coronation, as he commenced his third year on the throne.
The monarch, who was enthroned on September 28, 2024, said the past two years had been devoted to strengthening peaceful coexistence, resolving disputes and fostering unity among the various sections of the community.
“This throne is not mine; it is yours. I am only holding it in trust for you,” Egbe said, assuring his subjects that he would continue to provide fatherly leadership irrespective of village, kindred, political affiliation or religious persuasion.
The monarch attributed the progress recorded under his reign to divine providence and the cooperation of the people.
“By God’s grace and your cooperation, we have recorded peace where there was rancour, unity where there was division, and progress where there was stagnation,” he stated.
Egbe said his administration had also prioritised dispute resolution and efforts to project Agalegu Ishieke as a peaceful and progressive community within Ebonyi State.
He expressed appreciation to members of the community for their loyalty and support since his ascension to the throne, maintaining that the traditional institution remained a collective responsibility rather than a personal possession.
The monarch also commended the Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Bldr. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for what he described as the administration’s commitment to peace, the People’s Charter of Needs and respect for the traditional institution.
According to Egbe, the policy direction had provided an enabling environment for traditional rulers to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding and grassroots development.
“The entire Agalegu Ishieke Autonomous Community pledges our unalloyed support and loyalty to your administration,” he said.
As he entered his third year, the monarch urged his subjects to consolidate the peace and unity achieved in the community, stressing the need for tolerance and collective responsibility in addressing emerging challenges.
He also prayed for greater development and prosperity in Agalegu Ishieke, the Izhi clan and Ebonyi State, with particular emphasis on the wellbeing of youths and the productivity of farmers.
“May our land never know war again. May our youths find favour. May our farms yield bountifully,” Egbe prayed.
