The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State Engr. David Umahi has assured of a peaceful political campaign for the 2023 general elections in the State.
The Governor gave the assurance at the grand finale of the 20222 Independence Day celebration held at Pa- Ngele Township Stadium Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
While delivering his 2022 Independence address, the Governor said that this year's Independence Day celebration is symbolic as it marks the last Independence Day celebration that would usher in another government both at the State and Federal level, providing a moment to reflect on the untiring labour of Ebonyi Founding fathers for the creation of Ebonyi State and to ponder on the justifications of the yearnings of the founding fathers for the State Creation.
The Governor while congratulating the Nigerians and Ebonyi people on the Independence anniversary, said the 26th celebration of Ebonyi State creation shall be celebrated in a greater dimension by December this year.
He said the law of equity, justice and fairness in the governance of the State has been established, assuring that Ebonyi North zone would take the slot of Ebonyi governorship position in 2023.
The governor who took time to chronicle the numerous achievements of his administration in the last seven years, assured that his administration would not leave any project uncompleted, adding that Ebonyi State international airport would commence flight operation by December this year.
The Governor while commending President Mohammadu Buhari for being a true leader of the nation, and past administrations of Ebonyi State for their contributions to the development of the State, lauded security agencies in the State including EBUBEAGU security outfit for their intelligent security watch, adding that there is no more hiding place for criminals in the State.
On his part, the State Deputy Governor Barr. Kelechi Igwe, during the flag-off of the second phase of the Ebonyi NG-CARES empowerment programme, said the second phase which involved 7, 261 beneficiaries cut across all areas of the State including the disabled and other opposition political parties and commended the Governor for the gesture.
In their goodwill messages, the speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly and APC governorship candidate Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the South East CAN chairman and special adviser to the Governor on religious and welfare matters Reverend Father Abraham Nwali, the State APC chairman Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the chairman Ebonyi council of elders Chief Ben Okah, and the chairman South East council of traditional rulers Eze Charles Mkpuma among others, said 2022 Independence Day celebration is remarkable for the tremendous achievements of Governor Umahi and eulogized him for his leadership ingenuity in the State.
Highlights of the event were the inspection of the guard of honour, a special parade by the Nigeria police force, Ebonyi State command, the cutting of an anniversary cake, a match passed by Nursery, primary and secondary schools and other special groups in the State and a flag-off of the second phase of Ebonyi NG-CARES empowerment programmes among other things while State banquet was later held at Christian Ecumenical centre Abakaliki to mark the independence anniversary celebration.
