The Progressive Governors' Forum (PGF) has thrown its weight behind the economic and security policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following a regional meeting held in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
In a statement released after the meeting, the Forum said it deliberated extensively on key national issues, particularly the economy and security, and reaffirmed its unwavering support for the bold and strategic reforms being implemented by the Tinubu-led administration.
According to the Forum, the President’s policies are not only revitalizing the national economy but also empowering state governments to drive development at the sub-national level.
“We recognize that these initiatives by President Tinubu are critical in strengthening the economy and enabling us, as governors, to deliver meaningful development to our people,” the Forum said.
On security, the PGF praised the efforts of security agencies across the country, commending their professionalism and commitment to protecting lives and property. However, it also emphasized the importance of local participation in security efforts.
The governors highlighted the role of community-based security during a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II CFR, after the meeting.
“The role of local communities in enhancing internal security cannot be overemphasized,” the statement read. “We are committed to strengthening community security architecture in collaboration with national security agencies.”
The Forum concluded by expressing firm support for initiatives aimed at improving grassroots security nationwide, in the interest of peace, stability, and the well-being of citizens.
The meeting was presided over by PGF Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
