The Ebonyi State Government has announced that commercial flight operations will resume at the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, on August 19, 2025, following the near completion of airfield lighting installation and connection to the airport’s electricity powerhouse.
Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Mrs. Ngozi Obichukwu, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Abakaliki over the weekend.
She said the technical experts and engineers handling the project are “on the fast lane” to conclude the installation within the next two weeks, enabling the airport to operate optimally.
According to her, the development marks a significant milestone in boosting air connectivity and passenger convenience in Ebonyi and neighbouring states.
She encouraged air travellers from Ogeb, Obubra, Itigidi, Boki, Okigwe, as well as parts of Abia, Abuja, and Lagos to take advantage of the improved services.
“We urge our esteemed customers to purchase their tickets and fly through the United Nigeria Airline to Chuba Okadigbo International Airport Onueke Ezza South LGA. The airline operates flights from Abuja to Abakaliki and Lagos to Abakaliki, and vice versa,” the statement read in part.
Mrs. Obichukwu stressed that the resumption of flights will further strengthen trade, tourism, and economic growth in Ebonyi State, while offering residents faster and safer travel options to major cities across Nigeria.
