The Ebonyi State Government has inaugurated a high-powered Economic Advisory Committee with a mandate to design a far-reaching blueprint that will drive sustainable growth, industrialization, and long-term development in the state.
The committee, inaugurated on Monday, September 1, 2025, is chaired by Prof. Barth Nnaji, a globally renowned technocrat and former Minister of Power. Its membership includes leading economists, industrialists, entrepreneurs, technocrats, and retired senior military officers—an assemblage of expertise expected to provide practical, results-oriented policy guidance to the government.
According to Dr. Boniface Nwankwo, Special Assistant to the Governor on Documentation, who issued a statement on Thursday, September 4, the establishment of the Ebonyi State Economic Advisory Committee (ESEAC) was sanctioned at the State Executive Council meeting of August 14, 2025, under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
The committee’s terms of reference include proposing strategies to boost ease of doing business, reviving the moribund NIGERCEM cement factory, establishing new cement and salt processing industries, offering sustainable energy solutions, and developing the newly established Ebonyi Industrial City in Izhiamgbo. It is also tasked with crafting a long-term economic framework that will outlive the current administration.
Dr. Nwankwo stressed that the committee’s work is strategic in tackling unemployment, addressing power challenges, and attracting industries and investors to transform Ebonyi into an industrial hub in the South East and beyond.
He noted that the Nwifuru-led administration, through this initiative, has demonstrated its commitment to building enduring legacies of growth, employment, and prosperity for the people of Ebonyi State.
