The Executive Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area, Barr. Steve Emenike Nwankpa, has described the marriage between Mr. and Mrs. Silas Umahi as a unifying bond between two illustrious families in Ebonyi State.
Nwankpa noted that the union between the Nwifuru and Umahi families reflects peace, progress, and continuity within the state’s political and social landscape.
Speaking at the traditional marriage ceremony held at Oferekpe Agbaja, the chairman highlighted the significance of traditional marriage rites in preserving cultural identity and family heritage.
“Marriage is a divine institution and a continuation of God’s creative work.
Here in Izzi, the payment of bride price and the communal feast between both families signify agreement and the beginning of a new generation,” he said.
Nwankpa prayed for the couple, urging them to uphold love, unity, and family values in their new home.
“I wish them peace, stability, long life, and prosperity.
"Their families have long represented integrity and excellence, and this union further strengthens that legacy,” he added.
The chairman also emphasized the symbolic importance of the marriage, describing it as a bridge between notable political and social figures in Ebonyi State.
“This marriage draws the Umahi and Nwifuru families even closer. It is a sign of unity and mutual respect that will further cement harmony in our state,” he remarked.
Dignitaries at the colorful event included the Chairmen of Onicha and Afikpo Local Government Areas, Hon. Ikechukwu Ogbofia and Hon. Timothy Nwachi, who joined in commending the families for promoting unity and cultural heritage through the marriage.
The ceremony featured the exchange of traditional rites, payment of the bride price, and a symbolic communal feast, the acts that, according to local custom, officially seal the union.
As songs of joy filled the air, guests described the event as a celebration of love and a true reflection of Ebonyi’s cherished cultural values.
