A frontline media practitioner and Publisher of Golden Truth Newspaper, Hon. James Nwogha Nwite, has formally declared his intention to contest the Ebonyi North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections after obtaining the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms of the Nigeria Democratic Congress Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Nwite picked up the nomination forms on Sunday in Abuja and was subsequently screened and cleared by the party to participate in the senatorial primary election.
Addressing journalists shortly after the exercise, the journalist-turned-politician said his decision to join the race was driven by a resolve to provide purposeful leadership and effective representation for the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial District Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
The former member of the Federal Board of the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority said his ambition was anchored on repositioning the zone through people-oriented legislation, empowerment initiatives, and responsive governance.
He described the 2027 general elections as a defining moment for the people of Ebonyi North and entire Nigerians, stressing the need to “reclaim the district from self-serving politicians.”
According to him, “The people of Ebonyi North deserve quality representation, effective leadership, and a senator who genuinely understands their pains and aspirations.
“I am entering this race to restore hope, create opportunities, and give our people a strong voice at the National Assembly.”
Nwite said that if elected, his legislative priorities would include youth employment, quality education, healthcare delivery, infrastructure development, agricultural transformation, and expanded social welfare programmes aimed at improving living standards without discrimination.
He pledged to drive large-scale youth empowerment through job creation, modern agricultural practices, skills acquisition programmes, and entrepreneurship support.
“Our youths should not continue roaming the streets without hope,” he said.
On education, the senatorial aspirant promised to facilitate scholarship schemes, educational grants, and improved learning infrastructure across schools in the district.
“Education remains the most powerful tool against poverty. We will support our students with scholarships, learning materials, and improved facilities to secure the future of our children,” he added.
On healthcare, Nwite promised to attract federal health institutions and support the rehabilitation and upgrading of primary healthcare centres across rural communities.
“No society can develop without quality healthcare. Our people deserve accessible and affordable medical services, especially those in rural areas who have suffered neglect,” he stated.
He further assured constituents of his commitment to attracting federal road projects, rural electrification schemes, and potable water initiatives across Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
“Infrastructure development will be a major priority. We must open up rural communities through good roads, electricity, and water projects that stimulate economic activities. These projects must be practical, visible, and impactful,” he said.
Nwite also pledged priority attention to women empowerment and social welfare programmes, insisting that governance must directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
He expressed concern over rising insecurity across the country, calling for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s security architecture.
“The level of insecurity in Nigeria today is unacceptable. Government at all levels must rise to the responsibility of protecting lives and property. Nigerians deserve to live in peace without fear,” he said.
The NDC aspirant described the party as a credible platform for national rebirth, insisting that Nigerians were yearning for a new political direction.
“The NDC is a movement for national rebirth. Nigerians are tired of failed promises and are looking for credible alternatives that can restore confidence in governance,” he added.
Nwite recalled his involvement in previous political engagements, noting that he was among the founding stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Ebonyi State.
He also served as Ebonyi State Coordinator of the 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee for Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
He further disclosed that he currently coordinates the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement for a New Nigeria in Ebonyi State.
An indigene of Ekirigwe Ishieke in Ndiegu Ward of Ebonyi Local Government Area, Nwite is widely regarded by supporters as a grassroots mobiliser with strong political structures across Ebonyi North.
He vowed to unseat the incumbent senator representing the district and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, insisting that his candidacy would usher in a new era of transformation, effective representation, and human capital development in the zone.
