The Rivers State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mr. Moses Oleghe has said that Nigerians are proud of the milestones achieved by the scheme in its 53 years of existence.
Oleghe made the remarks at a brief but colourful ceremony to mark the 53rd anniversary of the scheme in Port Harcourt.
The state NYSC Coordinator said that Nigerians wouldn't have wished for anything better as the scheme has served as a tool for national unity and social integration.
"I congratulate the NYSC Director General, Brig-Gen Olakunle Nafiu, members of top management, staff and corps members for the milestone of 53 years of age.
"I wish the scheme greater heights and successes in the years ahead,".
Corps members in separate reactions also congratulated the scheme and pronounced that they were happy to be part of its successes.
"We are happy to be moulded by the scheme to become responsible citizens and we would do our best to ensures it continues meeting desired objectives" they echoed.
Highlights of the event was the cutting of the anniversary cake, music by the electrifying NYSC band, as well as scintillating dance by staff and corps members.
The corps members and staff embarked on a road walk for. the NYSC state secretariat Mile 1, though Ikwerre Road and making a detour at Ikeoku flyover amidst a downpour.
NYSC partners including John'vents chocolate and Peak Milk were on the ground to provide refreshments to the corps members alongside those provided by the state coordinator.
