The All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed reports alleging that its National Treasurer, Matthew Uguru, has procured nomination forms to contest the 2027 Ebonyi State governorship election against the incumbent, Francis Nwifuru.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party described the claim as “fictitious, malicious, and entirely false,” stressing that it does not reflect the prevailing realities within its ranks.
The statement, signed by Albert Oketa on behalf of Uguru, clarified that as of May 1, 2026, official records at the office of the APC National Organising Secretary indicate that Governor Nwifuru remains the sole aspirant who has obtained both the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the Ebonyi governorship race.
According to the party, no other individual including Uguru has purchased either of the statutory forms required to contest the position.
The rebuttal followed a social media post by Nwoba Chika Nwoba, who alleged that Uguru had entered the race and would challenge the governor in the party’s primary election.
Responding to the claim, the APC, in a statement endorsed by Oketa, described as a party chieftain and close associate of Uguru urged members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the report.
It warned that such unverified assertions are capable of generating unnecessary tension and internal discord within the party.
The statement further emphasised that Uguru remains fully committed to his responsibilities as National Treasurer and has not expressed any intention to join the governorship contest.
