The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Uchenna Stephen Igwe, has been commended for what stakeholders describe as three years of remarkable transformation, effective leadership, and sustained reforms in grassroots governance across the state.
Igwe, who was appointed by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, marked his third anniversary in office on June 20, 2026, having assumed duty on June 20, 2023.
In a goodwill message issued by his Special Assistant, Barr. Egwu Chibueze Peter, the Commissioner was praised for demonstrating “exceptional leadership, dedication, courage, and administrative competence” in steering the affairs of local government administration and chieftaincy matters in the state.
According to the statement, Igwe’s tenure has been defined by consistent efforts to strengthen local governance structures, improve coordination across local government areas, development centres, communities, and villages, and deepen the implementation of the state government’s “Charter of Needs” policy framework.
The message further noted that the Commissioner has remained a “reliable and dependable” member of the state executive council whose contributions continue to support the governor’s developmental agenda at the grassroots level.
“Since assumption of office, he has consistently demonstrated capacity to overcome administrative challenges while ensuring that government policies reach the grassroots effectively,” the statement read in part.
It added that his leadership style has inspired confidence among stakeholders in the local government system, particularly in the areas of chieftaincy administration and community engagement.
As he marks three years in office, the Commissioner was prayed for continued strength, wisdom, and good health to further advance service delivery in the state.
Igwe was also described as a youthful and energetic public servant whose tenure continues to reflect stability and progress in local government administration in Ebonyi State.
