Governor of Anambra State and national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has thrown his weight behind the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for a broad coalition of progressive political forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Soludo made the declaration a few days ago at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki during a mega rally organised to endorse President Tinubu and Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for second terms in office.
Addressing thousands of party supporters, government officials and political stakeholders at the rally, Soludo said he attended the event in solidarity with Governor Nwifuru and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
"I bring greetings from APGA and I am here on a solidarity march with my brother and friend, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru," Soludo said.
He described Nwifuru as a progressive leader and expressed confidence that the Ebonyi governor would secure a second term in office in 2027.
The Anambra governor also endorsed President Tinubu's re-election bid, stating that progressive-minded leaders across party lines must unite to sustain the administration's policies and programmes.
"Today, you are endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. I have come in solidarity because progressives are working together," he said.
According to Soludo, APGA would soon convene a meeting to formally articulate its position on the 2027 presidential election.
"We are going to have our own day. APGA will summon a meeting and we will make our own statement. I believe that after that, progressives all over Nigeria will come together under one umbrella to ensure that Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues the good work and the foundation he is laying in Nigeria," he added.
Soludo urged people of the South-East to abandon what he described as the "politics of lamentation" and embrace strategic alliances capable of advancing the region's interests within the Nigerian federation.
"Enough of politics of lamentation. We must now move from an alliance for protest to an alliance for progress, partnership and prosperity for Ndigbo in Nigeria," he said.
The governor further called for greater political unity among the Igbo people, urging them to consolidate their support around leaders and policies that would guarantee the region's development and inclusion at the national level.
"We must unite as Ndigbo and ensure that we do not waste our votes again," Soludo declared.
The endorsement rally, held at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, attracted top government officials, party leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups and supporters from across Ebonyi State and neighbouring states, underscoring growing momentum among some political stakeholders for a broader progressive alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
