Traders at Okwor Ngbo Market in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have declared their support for the House of Representatives ambition of Hon. Chief Barr. Tochukwu Ogalagu, popularly known as T-MAN, ahead of the 2027 general elections, following his intervention in restoring electricity to the market after months of blackout.
The endorsement was contained in a statement jointly issued by the leadership of the Okwor Ngbo Market Transformer Management Committee, chaired by Mr. Omogo Obed Chukwuma, and the Okwor Ngbo Market Amalgamated Traders Association, led by Mr. Egbo Emeka.
The traders recalled that the market's transformer was vandalised by suspected hoodlums on April 16, 2026, throwing the market into darkness and disrupting commercial activities.
According to the statement, the prolonged blackout affected hundreds of traders and customers, with many business owners recording losses as a result of the power outage.
The associations said Ogalagu intervened after learning about the incident and facilitated the restoration of electricity to the market within a short period, fulfilling a promise he made to the affected traders.
The statement read in part: "The restoration of electricity to Okwor Ngbo Market has revived commercial activities and brought relief to traders who had suffered months of hardship following the vandalisation of the market transformer.
"Hon. Chief Barr. Tochukwu Ogalagu demonstrated uncommon commitment to the welfare of the people by ensuring that electricity was restored as promised. His intervention reflects responsive and people-oriented leadership."
The traders described the intervention as a rare demonstration of leadership, noting that it had restored confidence among business owners and improved economic activities within the market.
They further stated that Ogalagu's gesture showed genuine concern for the welfare of the people of Ngboejeogu Urban and the development of the local economy.
Following the intervention, the traders unanimously declared their support for Ogalagu's aspiration to represent the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
"We unanimously endorse his aspiration to represent Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. We pledge our support, prayers and grassroots mobilisation in recognition of his commitment to addressing the needs of our people," the statement added.
The associations also assured that they would continue to publicise what they described as Ogalagu's record of service across communities in the constituency.
The statement was signed by Mr. Omogo Obed Chukwuma, Chairman of the Okwor Ngbo Market Transformer Management Committee; Mr. Egbo Emeka, Chairman of the Okwor Ngbo Market Amalgamated Traders Association; and Aboh Emeka Onah, Esq., Secretary of the Transformer Management Committee.
