The Executive Chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Chidiebere Onyemaechi Alo, has reiterated his commitment to ensuring the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all elective positions within the council area in the 2027 general elections.
Alo made the declaration during the official assumption of office and dedication of his administration to God at the council headquarters in Nkaliki, Abakaliki.
The council chairman, who described Abakaliki Local Government as an APC stronghold, urged members of the party to remain united and committed to the party's success, while warning against activities capable of undermining the party's fortunes ahead of the 2027 elections.
He specifically cautioned individuals involved in anti-party activities to retrace their steps, warning that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against those whose actions were deemed detrimental to the interests of the party.
Alo also charged members of the Ikeduoha Foundation and residents of Abakaliki Local Government to sustain and strengthen their support for the APC, citing the party's performance in the recently concluded local government and councillorship elections in the state.
He urged them to work towards securing what he described as a "landslide victory" for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, saying such support would enable the people to continue benefiting from the dividends of democracy.
The chairman further disclosed that the political ward that records the highest number of votes for APC candidates during the 2027 elections would receive a substantial financial reward as a token of appreciation for its performance.
He pledged to maintain a cordial and productive relationship with workers in the council, assuring them of his cooperation and commitment to creating an enabling environment for effective service delivery.
Alo said his administration would prioritise robust empowerment programmes, strategic appointments, human-capital development and infrastructural development, among other initiatives, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of residents and advance the council's development.
He commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for what he described as his "unprecedented leadership" in Ebonyi State, particularly his efforts towards restoring peace in communities previously affected by violent conflicts.
The council boss pledged that the people of Abakaliki Local Government would reciprocate the governor's development efforts by supporting his political aspirations at the polls.
Speaking separately, the Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Emmanuel Nwangele; former Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Fidelis Ogodo; Coordinator, Enyida Development Centre, Hon. Ruben Edeh; APC Zonal Youth Leader, Ebonyi North, Chijioke Idenyi; former APC Chairman in Abakaliki LGA, Ikechukwu Ogbonna; Coordinator, Ikeduoha Foundation, Prince Ikechukwu Uzor Igwe; and Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Abakaliki LGA Chapter, Tochukwu Nwalegu, among others, commended Alo for dedicating his administration to God.
They assured the chairman of their continued support and solidarity as he settles into office.
In his sermon titled, "The Bane of Good Leadership in Nigeria," the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Abakaliki, Bishop Monday Nkwoagu, urged political leaders to prioritise good governance, accountability and the welfare of the people while occupying positions of authority.
Nkwoagu said effective leadership remained critical to building a peaceful and prosperous society, urging politicians to use public office to positively impact the lives of citizens.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Abakaliki LGA, Nwabueze Nwophor, also assured the council chairman of the workers' support and cooperation towards the success of his administration.
Meanwhile, Alo announced the appointment of Comrade Friday Nwankwegu as his Special Assistant.
The ceremony was attended by youths, women, political stakeholders, community leaders and various support groups from across the local government area.
